Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:18-20 ESV)
The Need
100,000 unreached people will die tonight - all without having experienced God’s Love!
The fact is that more than 100,000 unreached people die each and every day. Most of them have never heard the Gospel - not even once!
Missions agencies have always been about winning people to Christ, but up until the last 20 years, most agencies were content to work only where missionaries were welcomed, while more than a third of the world remained isolated from access to the gospel. Amazingly, even today, there are only 2.5% of missions resources going to missions among the unreached.
The bulk of the unreached people of our world live within a rectangular-shaped world area some have called “The Resistant Belt.” The region extends from West Africa to East Asia, from ten degrees north to forty degrees north of the equator. This specific region, which has increasingly become known as The 10/40 Window, encompasses most of the world’s Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists — billions of spiritually impoverished souls.
Further complicating attempts to reach the area, about 70% of new missionaries leave the field before completing even one deployment. This is due in large part to the extreme culture shock.
However, Christ’s instruction to us was to “make disciples of all nations.” When Jesus gave us the Great Commission, the terminology He used was “panta ta ethne,” which literally means “all the peoples of the world.” Every people group deserves the opportunity to hear, understand and respond to the gospel in their own language and cultural context.
Will you join us and help to reach these people?
The Plan
Disciple all Nations!
We must plant churches among the unreached in order to complete our commission to “make disciples of all nations.” And more than planting churches, we must plant church planting movements - churches that plant churches that plant churches and so on - exponentially!
Planting churches in areas hostile to Christianity is difficult and often dangerous work, all the more so due to the shortage of missionaries and missions resources. But God still wants them to be reached.
If you can’t get enough missionaries to go to this region, then you ask God to make missionaries out of the folks already in the region! In fact, God has led us to focus on those who make their home on small ocean sailing vessels, who live and travel through this region of the world.
We seek to lead to salvation in Jesus Christ those hardy souls sailing in the region and then equip them to plant church planting movements through a brief apprenticeship in Biblical Storytelling and Church Planting.
These are rare individuals indeed who willingly cross oceans and live in primitive parts of the world with all their worldly possessions crammed into something with the interior volume of six phone booths. However the reality is that these people thrive in this type of environment and have the makings of successful missionaries once they have been converted and discipled for a brief season.
This is the vision that God has given to Friends Across The Water Founders, Bob and Janice Ross.
